Before now, to share that new single with your friend or loved one, you had to hand them an earbud. Thanks to Apple’s new technology revealed at today’s WWDC event, there’s a better way of sharing sound called AirPods audio sharing.
Apple claims you would soon be able to share audio if you own a pair of the $159 AirPods. If you want to share a song, you would be able to wirelessly send the audio to their AirPods.
No demonstration of the AirPods sharing audio technology took place at the event, just an image of two phones hovering next to each other. I think it’s safe to assume that you will get the option to transfer audio to another person’s AirPods when your phone is close to theirs. This is basically a more sanitary way of sharing audio than putting your earbuds in someone else’s ears.
Also, you would now be able to respond to messages directly without typing, thanks to Siri. This on the other hand was demonstrated. It allows Siri to read out your messages via your AirPods and you can send a reply via voice command.
There is no official word on exactly when these updates will be coming out. If you’re looking for a pair of budget friendly true wireless earbuds, look no further than the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots.
