Fast charging is fast becoming a fierce competition between smartphone companies with everyone trying to show off. Well, this is good for us consumers. Just like we saw the OnePlus 7 Pro with 30W warp charge, Huawei with 40W , Oppo Find X did a crazy fast 50W SuperVOOC Flash charge and now the Vivo 120W FlashCharge has joined the race. We’re still a long way from smartphone batteries that can last several days but at least we have the next best option.
Vivo is not new to the fast charging competition, as it has been using Dual-Engine fast charge on its phones. The iQ00, a gaming phone by the Chinese company packed a 4000mAh battery along with flash charge. The iQ00 can go from 0% to 50% in 15 minutes and 0% to 100% in 45 minutes, pretty amazing right? Now, imagine taking that up a notch.
One of Vivo’s product managers posted a GIF on Weibo that showed off the 120W super FlashCharge technology. As you can see, it shows the phone being charged from 10% to 14% in only 16 seconds. Even though this isn’t a 0 – 100% charge cycle, it is still impressive.
When can we expect it?
I know we hear 120W charging and we get excited, but it might take some time before rolling out in actual products. Ultra-fast generates some serious amount of heat which makes it harder to fit within the heat thermal limits of most smartphones.
Official word is yet to be put out on the Vivo 120W flashcharge, as to how system would work or when it would be on the market. My guess is it will be part of Vivo’s first 5G smartphone which is likely the button-free Vivo Apex 2019 concept it unveiled at the beginning of 2019. However, the Super FlashCharge and new Vivo smartphones should make an appearance at MWC. The conference is to be held in Shanghai next week (June 26th – 29th) where the company will reveal even more details.
