True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earphones were kind of looked down upon when they were first released. Personally, for some reason, I always feared l would lose them. But with the development in technology, wireless is gradually becoming the way to go. For instance, take a look at the evolution of the Beats by Dre. From chunky over the ear first generation of the wired Beats Studio to the truly wireless Power Beats Pro. Not forgetting Apple’s AirPods and now the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots.
Certainly, high-end true wireless earbuds come at a high price, sometimes worth the price of a phone. But like in most industries, there are companies prepared to offer high-end or mid range products at a lower price. Xiaomi is a famous manufacturer which focuses on low priced gadgets with relatively high specs, and the Xiaomi Redmi AirDot is a master piece of sorts. So, if you want to experience a TWS earphone and you’re not sure of it’s for you, this is clearly the way to go. You get the quality of a high-end earbud at a low price, that’s a steal for sure. The Xiaomi Redmi AirDot costs only $25.

Redmi AirDots: Design and Appearance
At the moment, the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots is only available in black, which is different from the first generation which was white.
The dimension and weight is almost the same as that of its predecessor. likewise, it has a dimension of 40 x 27.2 mm and a total weight of 35.4 grams. Also, the earphones themselves are small and weighing about 4.1 grams, which is about a fifth the weight of Apple’s Air pods.
The charging case is made of durable plastic, with Xiaomi’s logo on the top. The charge indicator is located in the front of the case, showing how much battery capacity is left in the charging case. On the back of the case is a Micro USB charging port. Obviously for this price, you shouldn’t expect a Type-C port. The case closes and opens very tightly with a click, giving it a sturdy feel. While in the case, the earphones are kept perfectly in place with the help of magnets which prevent it from falling out of the case.
Unlike the Xiaomi AirDots which have touch controls, the Redmi AirDots comes with one physical multi-touch button. Just press gently, you can answer or hang up the phone, pause or start music. In addition, it adopts the round design of its predecessor and fits well in the ear. It has also proven to stay in the ear during rigorous exercises. Initially it takes some time to figure out how they should fit in your ear, but you’ll eventually figure out what position works for you.
Redmi AirDots: Connection
The Redmi AirDots connects via Bluetooth and is actually very simple and without pairing problems. Also, immediately you take the earphones out of the charging dock, it goes into pairing mode. Usually, they quickly connect to the previously known device. After establishing a connection with one side, the other side can be connected by pressing the button to simultaneously listen to music on both sides of the wireless earphones. With the support of Bluetooth 5.0, the sensitivity and stability of Redmi AirDots perform well.
Redmi AirDots: Sound
When it comes to sound, it is important to note that these earphones cost just $25, so if you’ve listen to the sound from AirPods, you should be expecting the same here. However, I would say that unlike the price, the Air pods are not 8 times better than the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots. The bass is very decent and the sound quality doesn’t drop at max volume. Similarly, the medium and high tones are above average for earphones in this category. Overall, the sound quality is worth more than the AirDots actually cost. To clarify, there isn’t much of a difference in sound quality between the Redmi AirDots and the Xiaomi AirDots lite.
Redmi AirDots: Battery
If you’re into True Wireless earphones, you would know that their batteries don’t last as long as wired earphones. The Redmi AirDots is fueled by a 40mAh battery with a 300mAh charging box. The earphones themselves can last up to 4 hours on a single charge. It can last up to 5 hours using just a single earbud. However, this may slightly vary with the change in volume. It can be charged by the box several times, so you can get up to 12 hours of playtime. It takes an hour and half to fully charge the earbuds .
Redmi AirDots: Performance
The Redmi AirDots work via Bluetooth 5.0. In addition, they are equipped with a Raychem 8763 microcircuit. This means that it has a strong signal quality ratio, and it won’t fade when the connected device is somewhat hidden. It has a strong signal connection of up to 10 meters. Moreover, the Redmi AirDots implement a two-way call feature to improve call quality. It also has high-speed digital noise reduction feature (DSP), which means you can listen to music in crowded and noisy places.
Currently, you can order the Xiaomi Redmi AirDots on Amazon and Aliexpress. Certainly, I definitely think it is worth the money. The quality of sound, performance and battery may be less than that of the $150 AirPods, but it is totally worth every penny at its current price of $25.
